About Me
Hello! My name is Elizabeth Hershey and I am a freshmen at The Pennsylvania State University. At the moment, I am studying forensic science and am in the Schreyer Honors College at Penn State. This website was developed as part of my CAS 138T Advocacy Project because after my first few months in college, one issue campus wide has grabbed my attention. The amount of negative body image and self-hate is rampant on this campus and not a day goes by where I do not here a body negative comment. Every day whether its my roommate, girls in my hall, or heard just in passing, I am constantly surrounded by body negativity. The statistics are alarming and hard to believe, but I am here to bring awareness to this issue and draw attention to the "fat talk". I am guilty of it too and I catch myself saying body negative comments as well, but together and with the help of the people you surround yourself with, this body hate can stop. Some of the tips mentioned are ones that I have found really help, because along with being an instigator of body hate talk, I am also part of the statistics. I have dieted in middle school and even earlier, the media plays a large role in what I perceive to be "the perfect body", and sometimes fad diets seem too hard to pass up. But, these are not healthy realities and by ending the fat talk and negative body perceptions, a healthier environment and healthier personality can become contagious.
